Stocks Lose Ground for Second Straight Week – Washington Post- About: Stock Trading News

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tony @ 10:32 pm

For the second straight week, stocks lost ground, as the Dow Jones industrial average closed down 1. Of the major indexes, only the Nasdaq composite index closed up for the week, rising 0. Yesterday, stocks languished, closing nearly flat, as investors locked in profits and remained cautious about the economic recovery. Investors have pushed stocks up more than 30 percent since March on glimmers of hope that the deterioration of the economy is slowing. The major indexes will likely continue to trade within a small band, recording slight gains and losses, until there are more concrete signs of an economic recovery, perhaps in the fall, analysts said. read more

Stocks Up as Bernanke Talks Banks – TheStreet.com- About: Stock Trading News

Homebuilding and retail led stocks in New York to their greatest increases of the week on Thursday as corporate news, a Treasury auction and the Federal Reserve chairman’s testimony in Washington helped mitigate jitters over economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 172. Early on, the market had economic data — some better and some worse than expected — to digest. Stocks Flying Under the Radar – Motley Fool- Stock Trading News

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tony @ 9:28 pm

Will his June 2009 pick , MWI Veterinary Supply , continue in that winning tradition? As the name implies, the company is a distributor of veterinary supplies with 2/3 of its sales related to the companion animal market (pets) and 1/3 to the production animal market (livestock) . Market tends to be incredibly myopic and is, in my opinion, valuing this company more on recent top line growth rates than it is on its multi-year history of far more robust growth — something I would expect the company to return to once macroeconomic conditions change. Given that 2/3 of this company’s revenues come from the pet market and 1/3 from the livestock market, this should continue to help insulate this company from continued macroeconomic malaise . What are investors waiting for? Consumers. – The Associated Press(Stock Trading News)

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tony @ 8:57 pm

NEW YORK (AP) — Americans may have poured money back into stocks this year, but market watchers worry that they aren’t spending enough on other things — like clothes, cars and computers. The Commerce Department reports on May personal spending and incomes on Friday, the same day that the University of Michigan reports on June consumer sentiment. The stock market has been waffling since the beginning of June after going gangbusters for nearly three months as reports indicated that the financial industry is stabilizing and the economy’s slide is slowing. Crude oil and 30-year home loan rates retreated modestly last week, but only after hitting their highest levels of the year a week earlier. Stocks took most of the dive early last week on a batch of weak economic readings, including the seventh straight monthly drop in industrial production. The good news for the stock market is that a lot of new money has poured in, and a lot of money is still sitting on the sidelines. read more
